    Corsa sport heaters

i have a 1.6 corsa sport and the heaters just suddenly stopped working. the coolant level hasnt dropped at all so its not loosing water. i took the thermostat out and put it in boiling water and it did nothing so i guess its fooked. so iv put it back together without the thermostat but the heaters are not getting hot. their not freezing, just slightly warm. is this normal with no thermostat or do i have another problem

    Re: corsa sport heaters

i might be talking sh1te here lmao but i thought the thermostat held the water back until it was hot enough, if its stuck open then maybe not geting enough time to warm up? take it when you took it out it was in the open position?

Blocked heater matrix would be my guess. I here that the later Corsas are prone to it

    Re: corsa sport heaters

The heater matrix is a mini radiator if you like that sits behind the dash inline with the cooling system. They are prone to bunging up with a build up of crap, gunk and general coolant system ****e. Normally due to the small core on them.

    Re: corsa sport heaters

i think it was closed when i took it out. they do hold water back until it gets to a certain temp and since taking it out it is slightly warm. it could be a blocked matrix. 1 day it was fine and they were hot, the next day they were freezing

    Re: corsa sport heaters

Can you get access to the matrix pipes? maybe worth a hose out if you can... space is tight under the bonnet. Take it a new matrix means taking dash out?

yes dash out job. well i think so. i really doubt it will be a blocked matrix as they just suddenly stopped working after it been left over night.

I was just about to start a thread on this, mine has done exactly the same. Though if the engine gets over about 3200 rpm, or go around a long left hand bend () it does blow out hot air.

mine does the exact same thing as well...changed the thermostat and it made no difference! all the pipes are hot but still blows out warm air not hot! and most of the time its stone cold.

Let us know how you get on blowing it out. What I have noticed is that just before the revs get to 3200, I can hear a "swirling" sound almost like there's an airlock on the system that's being pressured through. Very odd!

Ditto! I think its the matrix tbh. Before i put my redtop in the old engine always leaked water (fu** hg) so half the time i was driving around dry i think it got clogged/corroded then .

I dont have the will to take the dash out

Sounds to me as though the matrix is leaking then.

    Re: corsa sport heaters

Your best bet is to check around the matrix and look for leaks. If thats good then check out all your drains and what not.

small blast with a jet wash down the pipe dont let it build pressure or it will split the matrix disconect th intake and return
