    2.0 8v Conversion

Decided now i am going for a 8v conversion. Looking at getting a donor car within next two weeks. Need to know a few things.

    Can i use my f13 gearbox ??
    Can i use my driveshafts/hubs etc ??

I will have both f13 (i think) and whatever comes with the engine so both gearbox and flywheels i will have. What box will be best on these engines for quicker acceleration etc ??

Any help and advice will be great.
    Thanks.

If your going to fit a 2.0 mate, go big block gearbox, shafts etc!

    Re: 2.0 8v Conversion

For the 2.0 8v I would use the F16CR. That's what's normally fitted to the big block 8v. By the way is it an 20NE or 20SEH engine?

It will be the 20seh engine mate. If I can use my shafts, hubs etc that would help a lot financially

    Re: 2.0 8v Conversion

u need to use a 1.7 dt flywheels as that is a big block engine and use a f15 box, but it a waste off time, i had a 20seh on a f15 that i no was a gd box and it threw the diff out after 10 mile off driving (i did have a cam ported head and a 4 branch) it was quick jsut box didnt last

Well what gearbox comes with the 20seh engine because i will also have that with it. So if i use that there will be no need to change flywheel/clutch etc will there. But will i be able to still use my driveshafts and hubs ?? I will have driveshafts and hubs off the cavalier also if thats any good ??

Im doing the same conversion to my corsa at the moment too with a 20seh and f16 gearbox. Im going to use the original corsa hubs and drive shafts but use mk2 cav inner cv joints to connect to the gearbox. Ive found this to be the most cost effective way for me as im on a budget too.

I have found a cavalier sri which i can get cheap, it is on a L plate. Will this be the 20seh engine ?? I dont really fancy the c20ne engine see. If this is the 20seh engine i shall do the cav mk2 inner cv's as that will be cost saving.

Im looking for a 20seh engine prefferebly. I cant find much info on the c20ne engines so not sure if i want one, apart from a turbo conversion i dont think there is much tunable options is there, plus its 15 bhp down on the seh before i start.

I thought it was the earlier cavs that have the SEH. You can check the code on the ECU in the drivers footwell (GF code for SEH) or the engine number on the block!

I reckon it'll be a C20NE though, in fact it will because on an L reg it will have a cat, which will make the engine a C-prefix (ie not a 20seh!)

Thats whats been bugging me. And im unsure now weather to have it if it is the c20ne engine. Can anything be done to the ne without going turbo for worthwile gains. How would bike carbs do on these engines as the compression is lower.

The difference between a NE and SEH is that the SEH has slightly higher comression, different cam and the ecu. This it what gives it the 15bhp more power rest of the engine is the same if the engine number starts with a C it is NOT a SEH.

Yess i know the differences etc. I want to know about adding bike carbs etc as the compression is lower. Looking at what type of bhp/torque levels can be achieved without going turbo or supercharging route. With 130 lb-ft torque thats a good starting point.

    Re: 2.0 8v Conversion

Will anything need to be done to the gear linkage or will that be a straight forward process too. If so then all i need is :

    Right side engine mount (custom)
If i use f18 will need mk2 cav inners

Anything else just list it cheers

im 99 % sure you also need gsi 22 spline driveshafts to use cav inner cv joints and your standard outer also cvs will wear quickly as there not made for the abuse

Ok thanks for the heads up mate. Ill see what is cheapest when it comes to it. What about the left hand mount and rear mount can i use the ones off the ne engine and just get a drivers side one made up.
