mk4 astra 2002 sxi 1.6 16v keeps stalling

hi there my girls astra keeps stalling when coming up to a junction and you clutch. the revs drop and she cuts out, also some times when driving she splutters.

has any one had any experience with problems like this. ?

any advice appreciated on what i could check

Is the speedo working ? If it is then likely suspects are:

Idle control valve
Vacuum leak
Blocked breather hoses / dirty throttle body
Coolant temp sensor
EGR valve

one question does the idle control valve stick can i celan it or do u just renew it

People have had luck cleaning them, others have struggled for months thinking their newly cleaned idle valve (and EGR valve) aren't the problem any more but have found they've got stuck again.

Personally I'd bung in a new coolant temp sensor for a tenner first to rule that out. My MK3 1.6 16V Astra auto used to cut out at junctions (and roundabouts, and when you took your foot off the throttle) for the previous owner and was cured by the sensor.

i had exactly the same problem with my corsa a few months ago, and it was a Crankshaft Sensor

the ecotec 2 litre 16v x20xev had a similar problem with cutting out at junctions ect it was to do with the crank case breather pipe going to the the throttle boddie so i just removed them and use a oil catch tank worth a try as it wont cost anything to try and i may well be the same thing good luck mate

thanks for the replies. ordered a new coolant temperature sensor so will keep this forum updated incase any one has use of it.

ok update fitted he coolant temp sensor and still no luck. car cuts out and junctions alot now, its my girls car and goes on the kangeroo juice when driving also.

done the brake test and got the codes
1550
1530
0400
0120
0220

can any one identify them all for me. and any advice on what the likely problem could be now.

Might be a bit of a stab in the dark but have you checked all the engine earths ? On the old MK3 1.6 16v engines, there were mentions of earth problems near the throttle body/egr area but I don't know about the 2002 engines.

That seems a lot of fault codes - looks more like a wiring problem than a sensor problem.

any one else know the codes listed above??
was woring on the motor last night and doen the following
1 took throttle body of and cleaned the black rubbish off left it all nice and shinny
2 the right hand side of the head has a breather pipe when i took it off it was full i mean full of creamy gunk, cleaneed this aas best i could and alot came out of the rubber pipe were the bend is. were does the enf of that pipe go. it comes out the the right hand side of the cam cover as a rubber hose then into metal, the metal one goes away down to the back of the engine way under the inlet system somewere, does any1 one know what this pipe is, is it the sump breather or some thing.
