Part arrived today, and I was able to get the car running well, so I took it to a Dellorto specialist rr. Good news and bad news really.
The rr operator had loads of trouble getting the car to idle, to the extent that it just wouldn't. There was a problem with no 1 cylinder in that all the others could be felt sucking while no 1 didn't. He could not find any air leaks so it seemed a bit of a mystery. He reckoned it was less a problem with the carbs and more a problem with the engine.
Because it wouldn't idle he was unable to set them up properly but still did his best. He fitted appropriate jets and the car ran very well on the rollers. While I stood back and watched him at work I saw the bhp gauge go up to 145@wheels, so bearing in mind he wasn't power running it, it was making good power.
The car was very powerfull on the drive home, the sound was gorgeous and the extra power could be felt. Just a shame it stalled at every junction. Part of the journey it also started running on just 3 cylinders, so I pulled over. Started again and it seemed fine. I'm just worried now that I don't have a serious problem with the actual engine, as the you can definitely feel that no1 cylinder is not sucking, and the fact that the car ran on 3 cylinders for part of the journey home. He said once I have this problem sorted I then need to get the car properly rolling roaded again.
So all in all I'm a bit pi55ed off. I already spent a lot more than I thought I would on parts, and the car apparently has a serious problem. I'm tempted to quit now before I waste any more money and put the injection back on. I no longer have the time, money or patience with it any more.
