driving along last night happy as could be, when lots of smoke/steam(unsure which) poured out the back of the car.
stopped the car outside my garage got out (and wafted all the smoke/steam away). The crap was coming from the front of the car (not sure whether it was coming out zorst now, it was all a bit hectic). Opened the bonnet to find the left side of the engine bay soaked in oil seemed to of come from the bottom of the car (cant say where as it was dark).
problem being there was a trail of oil going down the road so I assume that there was very little oil left in the engine. also there was NO water in the coolant tank . no pressure in coolant tank either. I opened oil filler cap (no pressure) everything looked okay (lots of oil no white crap).
The water temp guage never went above half way either
anyway Im hoping that my oil cooler hose has split (maybe sliced by crank pulley), or my oil filter has been punctured (very close to large hard metal bits in my nova), if so what do you think are my chances are of me replacing these filling with oil n water and all being well?
If not only other thing I could think of would be sump seal. If this has gone is it an easy job to replace? any consquenses. Chances of head gasket going due to lack of water/oil? how easy is this to change, any online guides, or does haynes cover this.
car was running perfect all night
oh btw the car was not misfiring at all. even when I pulled up end of night with a trail of oil behind me
also its a C20XE in a nova
