ive got an oil leak which is gradually getting worse, ive replaced the rocker cover gasket but it still leaks, i reckon its coming from the oil cap as the oil gets EVERYWHERE, it wouldnt be on top of the engine and all over the engine bay if it was head gasket would it???
i have also replaced the oil cap once, so maybe its the rocker cover itself - where the cap fits to. i'll try another cover pretty soon.
but a mate of mine says its coz the breather is blocked and the oil has nowhere to go apart from out the oil cap, does this sound about rite? how wud i go about checking / fixing it??
On the rear left hand side of your block (as you look at the car from the front) there should be 2 pipes going into the head, check these are clear.
Leaky rocker cover gaskets are quite common on the 8v so it way be that the cover has warped slightly or that you have over tightened the bolts and squashed the gasket too much.
as some one once told me on here,, the cap it self has a rubber ring in it which over time compresses therfor some oil can leak out over the cam cover.
this problem will be amplified if your breather hose and/or breather filter is blocked
so its deff the cap, i know cos i have the same prob and it was suggested that i remove the rubber ring and place a piece of card of the same shape and replace rubber ring therfore increasing width and improving the seal.
whil your at i would clear hose and clean filter.
well im getting a new rocker cover and cap off dazcav soon so ill just make sure that is extra clean, which i will do anyway as im polishing it up a little. if i have time before i get that i'll have a look and clean everything out. will let ya know what happens
