Z10xe swap help and advice

Hello, sorry for this being my first post but I have only just found you.

I have recently gained possession of a little 2003 model Corsa with the horrible z10xe engine. The engine has died by means of a valve head ending up sideways embedded into the piston. Obviously, this engine is now scrap.

Herein lies my issue. I know this has been covered before in general but I am after a more detailed answer if I may.

I cannot seem to find a Z10xe engine anywhere for less than £700. I can find x10xe engines everywhere for a lot less. I know the exhaust manifold gasket is the same, and if you go to Vauxhall they now list the short engine as being the same for the Corsa B and Corsa C, but I am not sure about the inlet side of things and sensors on the engine itself as the gasket design is different between the two.

Will a Z10xe inlet manifold fit and work on a x10xe engine in a Corsa C engine bay, i.e. gasket fit, bolt holes line up, etc... Will the appropriate sensors be available between the 2 engines?

Basically, I wish to simply remove the Z10xe complete and swap all the ancilliary components, pumps, manifolds, etc... over to the X10xe and refit back into the Corsa C engine bay. I do not want to purchase an engine, get it all to pieces and then either find that some of the important stuff does not match up, or that it will then not work after it is all back in the engine bay.

Any genuine ideas or thoughts?

Car was purchased the other week for a friends stepdaughter to replace her Fiat Punto which I condemned on safety reasons (it just wasn't). Got the car home and did a quick service on it for her (plugs, filters, etc...) and arranged for it to go into my work the week after (yesterday in fact) for a timing chain kit to be fitted as a precautionary measure (I work for a Vauxhall dealer so it is just easier) as I know these are a weak point in this engine.



So, she goes away with it for a couple of days and then I get a phone call saying that the car has lost power and the EML is on. Go to where it is to inspect it and end up getting it recovered by the AA as it sounded reasonably terminal.



Get it back to my place and take the rocker cover off. Everything looks fine. Crank it over and we have oil pressure. Take the spark plugs out to check compression and number 2 spark plug is as tight as a wotsit and strips the thread. Evidence to why is soon clear

I'm not a Vauxhall technician, I work in the bodyshop where I am the workshop controller, Parts Co-ordinator and Quality Control person.

I have no official tech. knowledge other than self-learned.

No worse than the lot when I was @ Ford though, so probably the same wherever you go...

My lot hate me, I'm always trying to think things through and double-check every option when working on cars to make sure nothing should go wrong and try to implement it in my work life as well. Means they can't get away with as much as they thought
