Nic was doing 150+ when it happened I think.

Thought someone had filled your engine with stones though nic, hardly surprising the oil pump gave up if thats the case.

Re: gm oil pumps and high powered pub talk let engines =

Was that a new genuine pump ?
Are ther signs of any forign material entering the pump ?
Forget what speed you were doing, what revs were you pulling ?
What sort of fit was the inner gear to crank, had it fretted ?

Re: gm oil pumps and high powered pub talk let engines =

would it of been ok with the steel SBD gear maybe?

ive heard the castings on the new pumps arent bad, but the gears were ****e. guess you've proven that now.

hope that you shut it off quick and not caused any further damage

read above, sumone put gravel into his engine which blocked the pickup causing oilpump too fail, this is most proberly the reason for the above too happen, doubt it was cause didnt have steel geats ect.

Re: gm oil pumps and high powered pub talk let engines =

how would someone manage to get gravel into the engine and it even last that long at the speeds nic got up to?

if true, then thats a ****. but with the load on the gear from the crank, maybe if had a steel gear it would of lasted.

oil pump failed. there are no marks on it to suggest anything went through it. also it has not heat marks on it as if it ran out of oil. it just failed. and thats that.

they opened bonnet as its just in bonnet pins and poured gravel into the dip stick tube. believe it or not, it happened. wasw bits of it and red brick stuff in bottom of sump. cant have come from anywhere else.

was too big to go up pick up pipe luckily.
