taking out stud on the turbo downpipe
how do i take out the two studs on the turbo which hold the downpipe with the turbo.
With a socket and ratchet.
Just un-do it like a normal nut. They are sprung bolts so it will be tight right up until the time the nut pings off and lodges itself into a soft part of your anatomy.
When you tighten it up USE A TORQUE WRENCH or be gentle. Its only 12ft/lb of torque thats needed else they just snap and you have to take it all off and drill the bar stewards out.
richie it was the whole stud i wanted to get out do these have to be drilled out.
yeh they studs do come undone
find two nuts that will go on the stud/s .
put the first one on a bit then screw the second one up behind it.
now get a spaner and turn the first nut, you may have to hold the second nut to stop it undoing both nuts
did try that method but the first bolt just keeps moving.
Take the elbow off (six 11mm bolts), put it in a vice and twist it off.
Try some heat if it is still difficult.
The elbow is fiddly to get off while the turbo is still on the car, but it will come off. Two off the bolts are particulrly awkward.
