Oddball, Animal etc.
I need some advice chaps, I write this from Corfu with 2 days of my holiday left however.
Last friday I had the weeping water pump changed in a garage in town as I didn't have the time, money or inclination to do it myself as it would be my first time. Despite the fact they took longer than they should it was OK, I picked the car up and drove to manchester airport.
Just before getting there (about 200 miles later) as I went to pull away the car died on me, there was some engine noise but not really too loud, on trying to restart, the started motor appears to just spin? On checking engine, the cambelt is slack, so I rang green flag to come and pick me up, they dropped me off at the airport just in time for my flight (thank ****) and then towed the straaa back to newport to the garage that had done the work. I mistakenly figured that the astonishing coincidence between them changing the cambelt and it going tits up would result in them sorting it for me gratis.
Speaking to my ma last night, the only news she has is that the "bottom peg" has snapped, think she mentioned tensioner as well. Either way they reckon its not their fault and is mine because I happened to mention to one of the mechanics that previously I had had problems with the cambelt tension as a garage had not rebuilt it with the spring properly. When this was found it was repaired propery and until recently was in perfect condition as far as I was aware, the cambelt has not slackened by itself at all.
Anyway, I will know more when I get back on Saturday but would very much appreciate all your inputs on this as I need to know whether they are within their rights to not cover it themselves and what damage I am looking to expect.
This has not ruined my holiday but has put a pretty big dampner on it, especially as I need 2 new sills when I get back.
