I have just replaced both fuel hoses from position under the rear seat (drivers side) to the point in line with the rear wheel - approx 15" fuel hose, as one of the hoses was damaged.
All done OK, but when I tried to start there's nothing - well the fuel needs to get through, so ive tried a lot of times, nowt getting through.
2 thoughts spring to mind - 1. air in fuel system - do I need to bleed this off in some way , 0r 2. - Although i'm fairly sure I didn't, could it be that I mixed up the fuel hoses that run parallel to eachother, connecting them to the wrong lines??? Thats where the Cav Gsi owners come in - if you have a look under car, have a look at this bit of hose, and see where the outer hose goes - ive got it outer to outer, inner to inner, i'm sure they dont cross over somewhere in middle, but I could be wrong.
I have sorted my fuel pipes, and fuel is getting through the bits I replaced, however car wont start. Plugs smell of petrol after attempted start. Would my fuel pump be ****ed? Fuse gone? What does illustration on fuse box look like for fuel pump?
Help - If I cant sort it out cant get to work ......
If your fuel pump was fecked fuel wont be getting to ur plugs. Clean ur plugs off and try to start it. If that doesnt work try towing it and bumping it. Thats what i did when my mate had this problem with his GSI.
that isnt a bleed valve, its meant for attatching a fuel pressure guage, unless you want fuel in your face at 40 psi i would leave it for now.
Did you disturb both the feed and return lines from the tank ? maybe got them round the wrong way ? you should have one line that feeds the fuel pump, and another line that returns fuel from the fuel rail the entire length of the car back to the fuel tank. (if you look along the sill you should see two lines running paralell)
If youve plumbed them in the wrong way you are technically running the fuel system in reverse, except the pressure regulator wont work at all, so the fuel rail will only recieve as much pressure as the pump can muster, which may not be enough to get the car started.
Ahhh I see now, that wedgey bits been removed, does it make that much difference?
I'm gonna get one of them Powercaps and an induction kit me thinks as well, mite have to hack that wedge thing out as well while I'm in the area....
