OK, for a recap, had a flickery oil light on the Cav, would sort of go out if you increased revs a bit, but engine has so far shown no ill-affects.
Replaced pressure switch with new one and changed oil and filter.
Spent 2.5 hours stripping off cam belt and cover, sump, baffle and finally oil pump. Thing is, it looks OK to me. It spins freely, doesn't seem to have play in it. The oil pickup strainer may have been 1/4 to 1/3 blocked with crap.
What would people advise? Clean everything up and re-assemble?
Or play safe and get a new pump (Quoted £60) and clean everything else up and re-asseble?
Please offer an opinion, advice greatfully received!
Or, scrap the bloody car and get the M reg SRi 16V round the corner for £1500?!
