On the way home Wednesday night my car broke down !!. Whilst doing about 40 miles an hour the car lost power and I ground to an ignominious halt in a convenient layby . 6 hours later, yes 6 , Mr RAC dropped me and my recalcitrant car on the drive . Reason apparently the Cambelt is cream crackered .
Because of the S*!t weather I have only had a quick look so far . Whilst the belt is intact the crank just rotates against the teeth . Maybe the water pump has seized ? . I will find out more when it stops raining if it ever does .
So cutting to the question . Is the 1.8SE a safe engine . If not
and valves have met pistons how far will I need to go in replacing parts damaged valves , stem seals , guides ? .
