Is there any shape on these?
Got one at my disposal.
What can be done to these to get them going?

On top of that you can swap the turbo to that of a 1.7, add an intercooler and you're flying![]()
/\ Its true! My 1.7 td just made 116bhp and 175lb ft on sat
A little bit....

can you fit a dump valve on the 1.5 td engines? if so where can i get one?
Hell yes, I look awesome!
Not as awesome as that engine bay though.![]()
Teeth? LUXURY! When I was a child we ate by putting rocks in our mouth and jumping up and down.
Why thank you it took some head scratching but i'm happy now!
what the problem? i asked a question and didnt expect a sarcastic answer.
was a bit harsh, you can fit one but due to the nature of the charging system its a huge waste of boost.
count vaux alot - you crazy bastard lmao![]()
whats that intercooler off?
What limits rpm on these engines? a mechanical governer?
Anyone tried arps and fiddling it? or are there bigger reasons not to than bottom end strength?
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... "f*ck, what a trip!"
There is no throttle flap on diesel engines, and no danger if it underfuels for a second or two due to lots of boost and not much fuel (ie. flat out, then changing gear), so there's no need for a dump valve at all.
Yeah, but they make peak torque at about 2400rpm (give or take) and maximum power at about 4200rpm. A higher rpm limit would be pointless, as well as mechanical suicide for a few components, I'm guessing.![]()

whats the gen on bolt on turbo upgrades for the 1.7? Ive heard mutterings about trooper turbos?

Apparently the turbo from a 3.1 "bolts straight on", but I've never seen any evidence.

In lower gears high rpm isn't a problem, but not necessary as it doesn't help acceleration,
in higher gears (4th,5th) i've seen the EGT shoot up when revving it hard.
(i've had my 1.5 at 5500 rpm in 5th...a few times until it did this: )
The 3.1 turbo has a 3-bolt flange, don't see how that's p&p on a 1.7. (i'd go for a newer turbo, preferably a VNT garrett)
/\ good shout a different turbo would be better! The coolers off an iveco turbo daily its 2.5" by7.5" by 19"...
Owns a white Mk3 turbo diesel with more stopping power then engine power..... boosting 0.9bar, Now De-catted!!
ahh yea through the turbo forgot to mention that part, i guess your right looking a little closer now originally thought it was a polish N/A Inlet
either way top job there

Hi Jeffrey,
I saw your signature. Nice pics! Are you going to use a water to air intercooler?
They are great. I build me one myself a few years ago on another turbo project. They are smaller, and I think more efficient then an air to air intercooler. If you have the room, you can put “dry ice” around the water to air intercooler to keep it very cold ( dry ice, about -70°C ). It’s not messy, because it evaporates. So, no water in the engine compartment. ( maybe a little condense ).
Here some pic’s:

Thanks again about the info you give for my 1.7 TD isuzu project, I’m going to swap the engine tomorrow.
Kind regards,

Cool Van !
Yes, i'll be using a water-to-air intercooler, i've already got one and a good pump aswell,
finding an extra radiator shouldn't be a problem
Trial fitting the cooler:
(on a 1.5D engine, as i had one lying around)
It is an N/A inlet from an early Corsa/Combo 1.7D (the one without EGR, so pre 96 afaik),
that's why there's no safety valve and why the breather pipe is blocked on the inlet.
Very nice inlet, you could also take it apart, reverse the top half so the inlet points the other way !
