Corsa TD gearbox question

I have had two corsa 1.5TD's I currently run an S plate model one of the last I reckon. Anyway the gear ratios seem different to my old L reg - its doing 4K revs @ 80 mph same as a Sport. I am thinking that vaux just stuck one of the sport boxes on it - I am looking at adjusting the boost etc and happen to have a box from a 2.0 ecotec astra but not sure if it will fit - does anyone know?

Is this the case, I thought the box would have been a vaux one.

It will fit, but it won't help ! Finding an F13 gearbox with Wide Ratio and a final ratio of 3.35 or 3.55 would help (extremely rare though)

4k rpm @ 80 sounds about right for a TD corsa. (probably has the F13 wide ratio & 3.74 FD, see chart):

Thats really helpful thanks, why will the F18 (i think) from the Astra CDX ecotec not help from what I remember it had a taller 5th gear at least. Not really an expert on ratios etc so more info and help would be appreciated.

F18Close ratio has a 5th gear ratio of 0,89 and a final ratio of 3,45
F13Wide ratio has a 5th gear ratio of 0,76 (post '96 models) and a final ratio of 3,74 (some with 3,35)
F18 -> 1:0,326 (1 revolution in = 0,326 revolution out)
F13 -> 1:0,352

So, the F13 will give more speed per rev. then the F18. (even if the F18 is wide ratio, it's not worth the hassle of changing inner cv-joints and clutch).

Can you not use the same gearbox as the Cavalier (F18w)?

Mine does 25mph for every 1000rpm. 75mph is bang on 3000rpm.

Yes, but then you'll have to change the clutch and inner CV's aswell.

To big block stuff? I'd be tempted to do that anyway, just for reliability's sake.
