    Vectra 2.0 engine fault

Hi I'm after a bit of advice regarding my V reg 2.0 CDX Vectra. The car has an intermittent fault, which is occuring more reguarly now . What happens is the engine seems to miss / hold back and the engine management light will come on. The rev counter also jumps around from 0 to 7k while I'm kangarooing down the road. It happens at all speeds, feels like theres an anchor behind the car thats bouncing down the road! If I stop the car, engine off and on then the fault light extinguishes and the car will drive normally again.
Is there a method of pulling up fault codes on this car? Or anyone got any ideas what it may be? It feels like an electrical fault tbh but I can't be sure.
Otherwise the car is ok, if a little soggy on the bends

    Thanks.

Assuming it's not a DBW engine, You can read your fault codes with a paperclip

V reg may be too late to do paper clip.
Sounds like crank or cam sensor though, and they can fail around the same time as each other.
