c20xe corsa info
hi first post might be a long one too! i have got a 1.4 sport corsa 96 ish with a c20xe engine already fitted. i know very little about the car like when and how was it converted parts used etc. but i need to find out as it wont run. the guy who had it before me lost the key and has hotwired it. apparently ever since this it hasnt ran correctly but i cant take his word for it that it did run. if i disconnect the afm and the cts the car will run but wont idle and sounds a bit rough. it wont start at all with these two both connected. i have tried another afm but same thing. havent tried cts yet will do that soon. the afm has the 0 280 212 015 number on it. the ecu has GY on it? from what ive read most of the other c20xe older type dizzy engines run FP type ecu's. does what im saying make any sense to anyone ? hope so as id like to get this car up and running as its a tidy wee motor.!
cheers jimmymc

is the engine management light on? if so you'll be able to flash the fault code out and it might point you in the right direction.

What GM or Bosch part number's on the ECU? There were a few different codes like FP, GQ, GY used, but the ECUs are interchangeable unless you have the later type DIS engine, in which case the earlier dizzy type ECU won't work.
As mentioned above, find the brown/yellow wire in the plug on the ECU loom and connect it to earth, switch on the ignition and count the flashes of the ECU light and get the fault code. Probably dead airflow metre or bad wiring connection.

no the engine management light isnt on i just find it strange why it would run when the cts and afm are disconnected? i dont see why they would stop it from running/starting? very strange
-
the ecu is a bosch 90 410 502 ?
-
Does the ECU light come on with ignition? That's a Calibra 91-93 Motronic 2.5 (dizzy type) ECU.
-
yes it does will i be able to check for codes stored using the method you described?
-
You will yeah, but if the light isn't on when the engine's running, you won't get any fault come up. Try it anyway, just in case.
