Wayne - that's the first thing i tried lmao i gave them a nice tap with a rubber mallet and they cliped (opened!) although i didn't put a socket over the cap piece so i try that!

Chip - if that is right then cool, but i wondered if the added restrictions of the turbo and oil cooler would reduce flow rate?!?!? and i can definately spring to a new set of bearings!

Jim - good info on the oil pump! thanks for that. as for the crank, i don't intend for much more than a normal 6500 - 7000 rpm (this engine never really reved hard anyway!) but the turbo will add on a load more torque which may have the same outcome. are the cranks out of the 'new' 1.4 fabias any different (i thought about adding 1.4 fabia crank and rods to up the cc!). as for the pistons they are the dished type. the compression ratio (as i understand it) is fairly low on these (8 - 9??). i thought about doing the easy cop-out and adding a thin spacer or something of that sort, or i may just leave it and see where we are at!

are the genuine bearing shells the ones to have? what else ya got for an estelle?

on a different matter jim..... wheels.... 113pcd means not many wheel options... i was wondering about having the hubs re-machined to 100 pcd? possible? infact any gen about then from anyone?

You are confusing pressure and flow.

IF you need to do anything its a higher flow pump, increasing the pressure will NOT help.

ok cool! in general i thought if you increased pressure the flow would increase some amout as a result (not just in engines, in anything!). like injectors, if you need more power ( more fuel) you can up the fuel pressure!

but that is fuel and injectors, and not oil and gear pumps lmao!

jim - you mentioned that i should use the rapid 136 water pump, is the favorit one the same or as good, or is the 136 rapid one the one to use?

The pump flows a fixed amount, all the pressure valve does is determine wether it goes into the engine or into the overflow.

Ifyou incrase flow demands on the pump, then the valve will just send more into the engine to keep to the same pressure.

If you exceed what the pump is capable of, the valve cant possibly make any more pressure no matter what you to do it, it cant ever divert more than 100% of the flow into the engine.

Think of it as like the fuel pump maxing out, increasing fuel pressure wont help!

hiya mate..wheels are 130mm pcd same as old vw beetle so lots of scope there. i alwaysed used the std oe shells in the rally engines but these were having a strip and build every 500 miles!! pistons will be 8.5-1 then as long as the head not been skimmed (but i bet it has at least once ) so should be about perfect.. not messed with the fabia crank as i had fitted a 1300 screamer vaux by then but i believe people have used them rods and pistons different too as the block is taller think the rods are shorter. the oil pump should flow ok as long as its in good condition but might be a bit low on idle and the fav water pump impeller is about 2/3rds the size of the 136 rapide one (think about trying to pump the coolant 10ft each way to the rad and back)..std rad will be plenty big enough as long as the rest of the system is up to scratch..
oh yea the turbo will need a return to the sump as both the plugs in the side you pictured supply oil at pressure cant see the turbo enjoying that for long lol

yeah sorry, 130 pcd but tbh all the bug wheels i have seen look to like bug wheels and i don't think they will work with the look/style i want!

ok, so a rapid 136 one is the one to have

as for the oil.. there is one more plug near those two.. is that a return or will i have to 'tap' into the sump?
