i wondered if anyone could give me some information about the exact dimensions of 1.8 and 2.0 vauxhall carlton/opel manta engines. I am going to put a larger engine into a vauhall chevette and already have the custom exhaust and propshaft that i need to fit a 1.8 1984 opel manta engine.
To fit this engine and gearbox is a straight bolt in swap for the chevette engine and box with only minor alterations needed to the raidiator and starter motor. I am aware that the 2.0i manta engines have a completley different and larger block and gearbox than the 1.8 carb motors and the 2.0i does not fit into the chevette engine bay,
What i would like to know is whether the 2.0 carb carlton engines from the early eighty's share the same exact block and gearbox as the 1.8 mantas with either a larger bore or longer stroke, or are they the same as the 2.0i engines?
A 2.0 1984 Carlton motor and box has recently become available to me and i would prefer to fit that than a 1.8 for power reasons. Also could you tell me whether the carlton front disks and calipers woulds fit my chevette?
Thanks very much to anyone who can help me.
The 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.4 engines fitted in Manta and early Carlton were elderly 4 cylinder versions of the 6 cylinder 2.5 / 2.8 / 3.0 fitted in Senator and Monza. They are quite bulky engines. The 1.8 fitted in Manta and Carlton was an inline version of the 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.0 fitted in front-wheel drive Cavaliers and is a much more compact unit.
