    Whats gonna get hotter:

A small turbo thats working flat out

    or

A slightly bigger turbo thats taking it easy(er)

    to get more petrol.
Or a turbo with a free flowing tubular manifold, or a turbo with a poorly flowing cast iron lump.

I would be expecting a £120 manifold to crack in about a month.

i'm talking about the manifold not the turbo.
there are 4 equal length pipes on the fabricated item that sit a lot closer to the bonnet plus in the case of the T34 a large front exhaust pipe that routes from the turbo round and under the sump. I'm not saying that there might be more heat i'm saying there IS more heat i should know i've had mine for 4 years now on my cavalier...

Why if it is welded properly and is of a high grade stainless?

debatable, my £90 manifold has seen 3 years 40,000 miles and not
    1 crack.
i spent £500 having it modded/heat treated tho

    a big difference

depends wich k26... if its from audi 100/200 than compressor wheel is 66mm/42mm and if its from RS2 than inducer is bigger (think around 50mm)
turbine wheel is also bigger...exducer is 62mm (and inducer is from 46 to 54mm)
    k26 could go close to 400hp (rs2 over 400hp)
you will need manifold, external wastegate, downpipe (+ wastegate pipes sreamer or back to exh),oil feeds...

    no way mate
well,if u want to keep stock k16 mani (err...NO!) there is a combination:

U will need k26 compressor wheel...to mount it on k16 shaft U will need precision machined adapter (k26 wheel has a wider opening) and a machined compressor back plate...

or find a K24 7000 turbo, and use CHRA from k24,shaft from k24 and a turbine wheel from k24 + k26 compressor wheel and k24 compressor housing... and bolt that to stock k16 manifold

i have seen quite a few people running t3 on tubular manifold, succesfully so i think i am going to try that first,

how does this set up work with an external wastegate,

Sorry dont get how the external wastegate works and what pipes are required.

Majority of t3's will be internally gated and due to the size of the turbo i cant really see the point in going external. The penny in the t3 is slightly larger than the k16, i think thats the only advantage...if intended to use nitous this is a good point of the t3 but apart from that i wouldn't bother, it'll flow more or less the same as a k16
    A decent upgrade would be a .48 t34 off a cossie(good for 330-350) or a .62/63/64 if you looking closer to 380-400hp.
Just for simplicity i would also stay internal gated with the t34.

I'm running a 2wd Cossie T3 on mine (.48 Turbine / .42 Compressor / 50 trim) with an Ebay 200sx manifold, made just over 300bhp on the K16, power stayed the same with the T3 but torque went up a fair bit also comes on boost earlier than the K16.
I just went with the T3 as my K16 was a bit knackered and they were pretty cheap to pick up.
No longer the owner of an LET'd Nova ... Good times !!

Yeah i'd do the same if i had a nackered k16, so much easier to find a decent t3 than it is a k16. Surprised the t3 threshold is lower than the k16 though, intersting stuff
