engine ticking problem (sorry to cover old ground...)
i presume this has been raised a few times and sorry if i'm repeating but have searched and am still not sure.
Engine started ticking about a month ago when going to p/x my car (not good!) Ticking increases with revs and gets quieter as engine warms. Flushed engine, added 5/40 and in desperation some oil additive which needless to say didnt do what it said on the tin. Some days its louder than others. Is it a comment fault on Corsa SRis (8v)and what is the most common diagnosis
I'm no scientist, but it can only be 1 of 2 things - I think - either tappets or injectors. it could be the injectors because mine two sound if they are ticking and fade away once the engine is warm. It could also be the tappets, 5/40 I think is too thin for an 8 valve, I certainly would be a little apprehensive about using it.
I had a similar problem when I had a Big Old Granada. When the engine was cold or the oil was low - the hydraulic tappets played hell. I used to use thicker oil to quieten it down / cut down the smoke a bit
Had it for 3 years, spent next to nothing on it apart from a new autobox and never had a problem before someone wrote it off with a bit of careless reversing. Still got back what I paid for it when I sold it with 178,000 miles on the clock - he he he.
