Ok, the car is a 1996 p-reg V6 Calibra
First, when I start the car the ABS light comes on, and stays on, but goes off as soon as I press the brake pedal. It never lights up during driving. Is this indicating a fault?
secondly, when driving at motorway speeds, the oil pressure warning light comes on occasionally for a few minutes and goes off if I lift off the gas. The pressure guage in the centre console shows constant pressure though, and the oil level is fine. This has only started happening after my crash the other night.
I have had a looked for loose connections but havent found anything.
Is it possible to get oil starvation at certain points within the oilways due to a blockage or something?
Seemingly the car has had a replacement engine in the past due to some kind of blow-up. This replcement engine leaks oil like a seive, but I always check it and top up until I have time to have a look at it and repair the leak, so low oil level isnt a problem. I have also noticed bits of curry in the expansion tank, showing oil is mixing with the coolant. Is it possible this is just residue from the last blow-up being dislodged and circulated round the cooling system? the last owner did incredibly low mileage in it(about 8 miles a week around town!) Flushing out the cooling system and re-filling with clean coolant will show if any more forms. Any tips for doing this?
I will do a compression test to check the head gaskets as soon as I figure out a way to get at the rear spark-plugs. - any tips for this? It looks like the whole inlet system has to come off!
Do these heads have problems with going porous?
Out of interest, what does everyone elses oil pressure guage read at idle and at cruising speed?
Oh, also, Im missing the big ecotec spark-plug cover from the top of the engine, any ideas on price of a new or aftermarket one and where can I get one from?
Any advice is much appreciated,
