My clutch bearing disintegrated on the way home tonight (no clutch = no stop = interesting journey!).
I need get the actuator bearing, friction plate and pressure plate (full service kit basically) and I'm keen to keep the costs down. Up until now (apart from some bits from the scrappy) I've always bought new/genuine spares.
The original clutch made it to 230k miles (with a replacement bearing along the way), should I buy a genuine Vaux clutch at this high mileage or get a pattern (cheaper) part?
Don't kknow about the 1.6 but the GTE uses an LUK item as standard (from the factory).
You can buy this from Vaux at £100++ but people have said that what they supply you is a re-manufactured set.
Or smart people shop around motor factors and buy a brand new (i.e. NOT re-manufactured) LUK clutch kit for £80 inc VAT.
Call vaux and find out the details of make of clutch (check if it's the same as any others - I haven't got the EPC to hand so carn't help, sorry). Then ring round the motor factors and save some money.
