I feel a bit frustrated cause ive been working since lunchtime but havent really achieved much more than a mess all over the road. It was going great, taking things nice and slow being really ănal, following each step in haynes with a nice relaxed attituted. By about 5pm it was back to the more primeval thrashing about 4 letter expletive metal on metalathon.
I'd forgot in the haze of sun stroak and fear what a complete bastard extracting the drive shafts from the gearbox would be. I'm driving bolster chisels into the join, big blunt screw drivers, tyre levers, metals wedges and all ive got to show for it is gearbox oil over the floor. f-cker. I also tried the slide hammer effect tugging on the drive shaft itself, i managed to disslocate the inboard cv joint, now its just hanging by the boot, nice one, buggered cv joint and the shaft is still in the gearbox.
In despair i shuffled over and tried the longer drivers side shaft, slide in the tyre lever, light pressure, pop, drive shaft + more gearbox oil over the road. lucky it did come out really cause suicide seemed the only option up until that point.
So basically from 4 hours work ive...
1. disconnected gear linkage
2. removed 3 gearbox retaining bolts
3. removed drivers side drive shaft
4. butchered diff casing and inboard cv joint on passenger side
5. drained the gearbox oil
6. removed gearbox end casing and spline cap from the input shaft
that little list looks pathetic, like an hours worth of work if you really milked it, its amazing how time consuming problems are.
basically i'm ready to drop the gearbox, just need to get a long bolt from the engineers tommorow, to extract the input shaft.
