someone told me while back about drilling the **** out of the baffle plate in the rocker cover for better breathing, what is this all about and how many holes exactly is drilling the **** out of it
its not for better breathing, its to encourage oil from the crank case breather to drop through the holes into the cam housing rather than make it through to the throttle body (or turbo inlet on C20LET)
courtenay sport do a breather plate which imo is far better than drilling the plate. all the oil from the cams etc will get flicked up and go through the holes you drilled making a minor problem a problem.
i have a how 2 on vxon that shows you how to fit the courtenay mod. and thats the only one i would risk doing.
I can see the potential for tiny improvements in MPG due to the small amount of vacuum in there, but I really cant see any performance advantage, where as guarenteeing no oil into the inlet I can see the advantage of from a performance point of view.
Aye that'll do the trick, you could do the same to the larger of the 2 breathers thay runs to the turbo aswell. Personally i'd have a catch tank rather than venting direct to atmo.
i would say to the turbo, cus if oil gets in there then it will go through the turbo intercooler and all the pipes. and dv. i would also make sure you have the one way valve in. im tempted to put mine back in.
but thats only because i've read the bit in 4 stroke perf tuning that says how vacating the crank case of gases helps prevent windage lmao probably to an unmeasurable amount from engine vacuum alone, but still
all i ever do with the plates is just leave the bit over the outlets at the back and cut the rest off, never had any issues with doing it that way, must of done about 20 like it over the years and all are fine, saves farting about drilling holes.
just for the benefit of the thread starter. I thought I'd mention the importance of cleaning away any traces of sealer from the rocker cover & be carefull of any drilling swarf etc.
hmmmm, ive just brought a coil catch tank, so will i not need to bother drillin that plate then?
