When my car gets warm I get a slight bit of pinking when I change gear. Would this be because the knock sensor is knackerd or could it be the fuel I use. I use unleaded and the octane plug is on 95. Should I use super unleaded and move the lplug around to 98?
Are you sure you have knock sensors? If not then try to use super unleaded but leave the plug at 95. If pinking goes away then you know you may be using bad fuel and there may be some tune up you need to do to sort things out.
the knock sensor is covered under the ecu diagnostic circuit, any fault would show up with the engine management warning light showing. The XE engine makes a slight tinkling noise by design at about 2500rpm, try a tank of super as a test.
you dont have a RON plug, i'm sure weve already had this discussion on another thread. the 16v only has a brown A/B plug which does not alter the ecu with regards to fuel octane.
You dont need a octane plug, thats what the knock sensor is for. It will self adjust to whatever fuel you put in buy detecting knocking, pinking, detonation what ever you wanna call it. It just alters the timing till it doesnt pink anymore, obviously this doesnt have to be retardation, it could be in favour of performance by advancing the timing, if your using high octane fuel and it doesnt detect pinking.
