porus head question

i recently rebuilt xe with gm parts through out, tightened the head via haynes, now have signs of oil in water after 4k miles, is there any sure way to prove its the head rather than gasket? if say the tightening process cracked the head, if i have it repaired for being porus will this solve my problem?

    cheers for any help

thats exactly what causes heads to go porous, a thin cast between the coolant gallery and centre oil gallery, right beside the centre front head bolt.

you are right, its the tightening that finishes them off.

theres a possibility it could be the headgasket, but either way the heads got to come off to investigate and or cure the problem. (not entirely true, you can have the porous fix done in situe, but its not ideal)

Only problem is I've forgotten his username on here

Yeah Chris R used to do them - not sure if he still is.

Check my sig for info - you can do the fix yourself quite easily, it will cost you about £5 for the bits to do it.

i think the tubing is the easy bit, the hard bit is drilling down the head bolt hole to reinstate the oil circuit.

if you didnt know, oil comes up the centre head bolt hole and distributed to the oil gallery that is cracked.
