20SE and 20SEH pistons - are they the same?
hi all,
a ages of trying to find a set of 20SEH pistons, someone has just informed me that the 20SE 122bhp pistons are exactly the same as the 20SEH 130bhp pistons.
is this true? if so, where is the extra 8bhp coming from? it is a different cam and ecu mapping?
cheers

as far as i know the only diff between the 20SE and 20SEH is the cam and ECU map.......but dont quote me on that.....prett sure the SE donates the compresion...and the H is the higher output.......so i would assume the 20SER has the same pistons as an SEH aswell but again different cam and/or ecu map

The SEH cam will lift the inlet and exhaust valves 2.70mm compared to the 2.67mm of the NE cam. It will also hold the valves open for an extra 6 degrees compared to the NE cam
The mapping is also different and helps a good bit.
I'm goin along a similar route as you only I have a 20NE engine(pre cat version) and I'm keeping the bottom end NE but I'm searching for a SEH cam, a vernier pulley and I have a 20se brain to fit to her.
The s stands for the compression which iirc is 10 or 10.5 to 1
The n stands for the compression which iirc is 9 or 9.5 to 1
The e is for the fact that the engines are fitted with multi point injection
The H stand for High output

I believe astra GTE8V had an 20SER engine. I removed the CAM from one of these engine to replace the one in my Cav with the 20NE engine. The cam was definetelly different and helped with the power at the top end for sure after remapping the ECU to 20SEH maps.
