Hey guys,

My 1.6 8 valve Astra has a worn camshaft, however i cant afford a cam kit for at least a few weeks.

Am i safe to continue using my car or am i risking further, more expensive repairs?

Cheers,
Matt

not the lifters?

Lifters and followers both changed so can rule them out, plenty of oil getting to the head..

I would prefer not to use it until its sorted, but im stuck without it really. Am i risking further damage in any way?

The noise i can put up with for now

hard to tell. I had a hydraulic lifter let go in my 1600 8v that shagged one of the followers & the lobe. I just thought the cam was shot.

No damage other than to those components, however there is metal in the engine that should be on your cam lobe, so I'd only make necessary trips tbh.

Why not just bang in a used cam from a Nova GTE or summat. Ive got 3 spare & you might gain a few bhp for next to nothing...

easy to swap with the OHC head-in-situ, cam removal tool.
