I'm going to order a piston ring compressor, suitable for 86mm pistons, and with a length of about 75mm, that will be OK won't it?
I've got the torx bits on order for the head bolts, as I haven't got any.
I've also order a honing (SP?) tool for the bores
But I don't know what size valve spring compressor I should be looking at. I'll need it, as I'm looking at different cams + valves. Anybody know what I should get, should I just go for the biggest?
The one I was looking at is 75-175mm capacity, with a 150mm throat. Would this be big enough? it's a pretty large head on the 20XE.
Think thats everything.
don't know about specific dimensions for a VSC - but the Sykes-pickedonioned OHC one is ok iirc - a couple people on here have them.
I got a clarke one - but found I had to extend the valve seat platform a bit to comfortably fit around the head.
Just need a cheapy compressor. They normally range from 50 to 100mm on the compressor.
cheers peeps, I've ordered the bits now, and am busy wading through the QED and SBD catalogues, ticking far too many boxes!
I'll put a few piccies up of the rebuild, as it seems to be a recent trend lol
how did you get on honing your bores with the crank in place Austin?
put masking tape around the journals, and stuffed a load of kitchen roll over it.
As my bore was still mint, I gave is a light grilling with some 240grit w&d in circular motions. Didn't need a 'hone'.
