Turned off the car, it chuffed, sweet smelling, oily substance in exhaust...
The car was warm, one blue one yellow bar, parked up and as I was walking off I noticed chuff (smoke/vapour) coming out the exhaust, much like when you first turn the car on of a cold morning.
I watched it, didn't get any worse, gradually thinned out and stopped.
Inside the exhaust was what looked like oil, black, wet and sweet smelling.
Went back to the car 5 minutes later, no chuff, no wet oily stuff in the exhaust, just carbon stuff.
Drove home steadily, no chuff, strong smell of oil at one point.
Now I know cars just chuff now and then for no apparent reason but obviously there is one in my case.
It's p155ing me off now.
dunno if its true but i had the same problem with one of my 2.0 8v and i was told it was down the the mixture settings but i ended up knackering the engine before i could fix that problem
It wasn't cold, was just nothing weather really. The car was not getting overly hot, everything was normal except for the stuff coming out the zorst.
It wasn't excess moisture I'm sure, but obviously something is up cos of that smell.
I hate having niggles with ya car that turn into.. 'concerns'.
Keep an eye on your coolant as sweet smells are usualy burning/evaporating anti-freeze.
That was almost exactly the smell mate. I sat there literally for minutes trying to place it...
Sinister isn't it.
If its antifreeze type smell the I would be suspecting a headgasket on its way out
Which would be nice since it was done 5 months ago.
No repeat performances of yet, still plenty of stink though.
Number one suspect remains, sump gasket.
