Hi guys, just need to clear a few things up with u. Their are a few things u may or may not know about the settings on the Bosch VE pump as used on the isuzu engine such as we have. First of all the max fuel screw that has the tamper prove sheild over it doesnt just increase fuel at full throttle, it increases over the entire rev range. 2nd the white ring under the boost enrichment device is there for a reason, its pupose is to place pretention on the spring thus delaying when fuel enrichment accurs, thus enrichment will happen at a lower boost pressure with the ring removed. But on top of the chamber lid is a screw with a locknut, this is to set the preboost fueling, also preboost fueling can be adjusted from inside by turning the diaphram, it can be turned thru 90 degress to increase preboost enrichment to maxium. This is because the control rod is ecentric. I have detailed schmatics of the insides of the bosch VE pump so feel free to ask me any questions!!.

Nothing we didn't already know, but excellent info nonetheless.

Schematics and more detailed information would be fantastic.

    Look closer.

The inlet manifold is split into two halves. The lower half is pressurised, comes from the I/C and goes into the head. The top half comes from the airbox and goes to the turbo, but in a really roundabout way.

It's something I'd fancied doing, to be honest, only I was going to use the 1.5 inlet manifold as it looks a bit neater than having a massive redundant bit.

aww i see, could always just put the cover back on it tho makes it look a bit more tidy.

could always move the battery to the boot, re pipe the induction to battery location. should be a bit more cooler and get some more air fed into it

I'm either going to fit a cavalier/calibra turbo plenium cover or make something similar, maybe out of stainless, to cover the horrible inlet manifold.

People with 1.5's the turbo'd are indeed good all the way through the rev range mine will boost up to around 5k revs very freely infact

drives much more like an N/A car off boost and almost instantly gets boost
Owns a white Mk3 turbo diesel with more stopping power then engine power..... boosting 0.9bar, Now De-catted!!

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    Hi,

I’m new here. Want to say, great forum!
    Lot of good idea’s, manuals…

Like many people here, after reading this tread, I also decided to “pump up the power”.
I drive a Opel Combo ( I’m from Belgium ) 1995, 1,7 isuzu diesel. I chose this car/engine because it has a bosch pump and I want to drive on veggie oil.
I converted the car and it runs great. But, it is very slow.
So I decide to buy a 1,7 turbo isuzu, that comes out of a astra.
I read here on the forum the manuals and it is a clean swap, I use the original gearbox ( need to cut of some material next to the starter ). I need to use the original engine mount.
Also I need the exhaust pipe from the turbo ( first part that goes underneath the engine ).
Are the electric connection the same? To I need the starter from the astra or from my corsa?

Is it best that I do the “white ring” modification before I do the swap?

I want to place a boost gauge and a tacho to read the rpm.
Does someone now if I just can swap the dashboard? I now have no rpm gauge, but I thought maybe when I swap the dashboard with that from a corsa b diesel that has one?
Or do I have to modify anything?

    Thanks!!

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

I think the electrics should be similar and for the starter i would guess its the same as the engine blocks are preety much the same.

Do the white ring mod when the engine is out of the car it'll be much easier.

For the rev counter put the turbo diesel dash in and you need to put a wire from the dash to the alternator that will give the rpm reading (the wire is green iirc it might already be there) I need to wire the rev counter on my 1.5td havent done it yet cant find the wire

    dv + diesel = phail

they lose all their boost pressure and your diesel will be slower

i remember one guy at uni had an electric one on his mk4 golf, he looked so smug untill it decided to stick lmao was awesome watching a tomato driving a mk4 golf lmao

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

Well it's just taken me a while to read this whole thread!

But it's good none the less, I'm a diesel nut, i use daily my mum's Astra mk3 TDS, (yes it's the TDS!) Which as opposed to the Cav we had is much much better any ideas what they did to it at the factory to boost it's performance? and can i still do the white ring mod? I've also got a spere mbc i fitted on my A6 1,9 TDi (it hated it! and so did i! useless on it!) My a6 TDi boosts at appox 15psi and even with the mbc it would go off the scale 30psi!!!!!

Which scared me until i adjusted it properly as i really don't wanna go blowing my audi engine up as it's soo technical in there, it's also had the feuling upped electronically.

Anyway i'm looking in to buying a nice mk3 Astra TD estate soon and don't really want to mess too much with my mum's car, i'd rather do it to mine when i get one.

Oh and i'm currently trying mine on treated WVO biodiesel B100 basically my local supplier makes it at Ł1.10/l which dam sight cheaper than the pumps and fully legal as he pays duty on it hence it's Ł1.10 and no messing with heating it up.

Also i'm thinking of de-catting my A6 and removing the centrebox on my s/s exhaust so that u can hear the recirculating valve dump in to the exhaust, which sounds better than a DV and is better for performance.

    Hi, another question.
I read that de frontera intercoolers are easy to fit?
Can i easy mount the intercooler in front of my radiator? does the radiator "fit" into the intercooler?

    thanks!

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

Only the one from a frontera 2.8 like this:

(the 2.3 will only fit around a petrol radiator afaik)

The radiator size is 650x268x32 so you need a wider intercooler with pipes pointing backwards
or an intercooler with side exits that is narrower (or equal) to the radiator.

    Here's count vaux alot's Intercooler:

    (Corsa B 1.5 TD Tuning?)
I've seen some Ford intercoolers (focus) that would also fit in this position !

    Small cooler with flexible hoses:

    Another one:

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    Hi,

last weekend did the swap. 1.7 out, 1.7 TD in.

Still looking for a good intercooler. Have a small one now.

Does anyone had problems with cooling?

I still use the original radiator from the combo. Today it was verry hot, and engine temp did go almost to 100. Maybe because my intercooler is not set up right. I don't have good air flow for the intercooler.

I also installed a dashboard with rpm gauge from a 1.5TD. maybe the temp gauge are not compatible?
I did the dashboard swap, and the rpm, fuel and temp gaug worked without any problem.

    any idee?

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

You've not got a lot of choice when it comes to radiators because of the poxy intercooler next to it, and because the top and bottom hoses are on the other side compared to "normal" Vauxhall radiators.

A temperature gauge is a temperature gauge AFAIK, should display the same regardless of what Vauxhall you've had it out of. Does the fan kick in nicely? 100 is a bit too warm for my liking, but if the fan starts and holds the temperature then it's not a problem.

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    Thanks for the reply.

So other people don't have to do any mods regarding cooling when they swap a 1,7TD into the corsa?
It was on the high way, i don't now if the fan kick's in. I now that it kicks in verry late.
I'm going to place a good intercooler at front of the car as soon as possible. Now is have a stock astra intercooler that is placed behind the headlight. So no good ( non ) airflow.
I'm searching to find the best intercooler, not to big, because it comes at front of the water radiator, so i will have less cooling for the engine.

I didn't yet give more boost because of the intercooler. I did the white ring mod because it is almost impossible to do it when the engine is in the car.
I runs great. I cannot wait to turn up the boost and see how se goes.

Jack, i saw your engine curve here, 108 HP, what kind of modification did you do? Only white ring and turn op the boost? How many boost did you set it on?

    thanks!!
