The black clouds are un-burnt diesel because you're injecting in too much fuel for the volume of air in there.

    4500 - 5000, somewhere around there. I can't really remember.

Nah, it's a standard GM gearbox, designed with a petrol in mind.

Maximum torque is at 2400 and maximum power is at 4200.

I don't make a habit of revving mine any higher than 3500.

I felt I should make my presence known.

I also have one of these engines in my veccy, it's a cool engine. And I've found its relatively possible to tap your right foot along to the music, it doesn't make much differense to the driving haha.

Definately agree with the power/torque comments as well, I'm getting used to it on mine. First turbo I'm driven, let alone first diesel, so it's taken a while.

One of the things I love the most, is driving pretty much anywhere in 3rd and 5th

Uhoh...a bit of a tight corner...no probs, drop it to 3rd...back up to 40 back into 5th lmao

Yeh i always drive it in 3rd, and also sat in traffic i just leave it in 2nd and start off in 2nd.
Oh and overtaking is so much easier, stick it in 3rd, above 2k revs and off you go.

Get some photos of how you've plumbed your boost gauge in. I've got one on the way.

Nah, throttle response isn't amazing, but it's a relatively small engine in a big car.

Once you get over 2500 or so it starts to pick up a bit.

I'm going to put mine in a vent. Going to make an MDF peice to go in the hole, or get another vent and cut the plastic so the vent retains some of it's functionality.

Is that the small pipe on the back of the inlet manifold that goes to the fuel pump?

Actually, makes a lot of sense to t into there. I was wondering where to stick mine.

Probably about 115 - 120mph. I got mine up to 110mph and it was still pulling, but I didn't dare take it any further. I didn't fancy getting it towed back from Farnborough!

I'm the one that should be confused.

You're deliberately overfuelling it massively, to make sure that nearly all the air is used. Manufacturers don't do this, they'd prefer nearly all the diesel to be used instead, for emissions and economy.

    Look closer it's probably an F13WR with a 3.74FDR F13 identification
(there are some 17dtl's with F15WR and a 3.55FDR out there)

No, that pipe goes from the inlet manifold to the fuel pump, to tell the fuel pump how much boost is being run and to adjust the fuelling accordingly.

You could bleed valve it if you really wanted to, but all you'd do is lower the fuelling.

    Err, yes

    (sorry about the delayed reply)

What mileage are you guys tuning these engines at ? Mine has done about 170(ish)k, i know they're capable of 250k+ but surely not when 'tweeked' ?
