1 bar. White ring removal, and boost and fuelling tweak. That's it really. And a ****ing good service!

Could do with taking it off the road for a few weeks, I want to get the injectors re-conditioned and silly things like that. Feels like I've been neglecting it a bit lately.

1 bar? thats good performance! i suspected 1,2 bar or more.
I think i set mine also from 0,8 to 1 bar.

    thanks for the reply

Nice to hear the conversion was a succes

Cooling can be a bit of an issue, how hard were you pushing it ?
Next cooling upgrade i'm doing will be an external oilcooler, not sure
if i should keep the original heat-exchanger or take it off completely.

Any pictures of the finished conversion ?

I'm tempted to do this as well. If I put my foot down on the motorway and stay on boost for any length of time then my temp starts to creep up.

Obviously the only answer to this is to get more air through the rad by going even faster. Officer. lmao

Same here my temp increased when accelerating on the motorway i put it down to age, temp did rocket on top speed.
COuld you use the oil cooler off an ne,seh,xe,vw?

i had 1.6bar from mine, must buy another diesel. Whats the going rate for rapeseed now since everyones using it?

I'm using an aluminium-core Nissens radiator and I'm still having heat issues on boost for any length of time.

I suppose you could make any oil cooler fit with enough money/determination.

quick stupid noob TD turning question

as far as i can tell, the left pipe off the intercooler goes to the top of the air chamber on top of the TD engine, wheres the right hand pipe going to? i aint really looked at mine and the pipework plus my astra isnt at my home its at my grandads till its mot'd, taxed and insured, so can anyone tell me where the pipework goes

That picture will confuse the crap out of you, to be honest.

The standard pipework is completely different. The inlet manifold is the other way round for a start.

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    Hi DutchNovaDiesel,

    Again, thanks for the help.
    http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3104647

Here some pics, there are some with the engine in the car. You also see the intercooler and "airpipe'. I also disconnected the original airfilter and connected a K&N filter.
Now it has "cold air". The stock airfilter will heat up when the engine is warm, so the turbo get "hot" air.

The temp goes up when i pushing it, so on the highway, going 140 km/h. But the intercooler is not setup right, no airflow.

Now i have add a pipe so the intercooler get some airflow.
On the highway, driving 120-130 km/h ( about 0,4 bar ) the temp goes to 92°C.
    So no problem i think.
If i have a good intercooler, i will try again and see how high the temp goes.
Maybee the thermostat is higher on the 1.7 TD then on the 1.7?

another question, on a stock 1.5 TD corsa B, where is the intercooler placed?
I'm still looking for an intercooler at front of the radiator. Hard to find. I don't want to pay alot for a new "tuning" intercooler.

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    The thermostat could be different;
    -Combo 1.7D = 85°C
-Astra 1.7TD = 85°C(later models, engine no 731419-) OR 88°C (early models, engine no -731419)

Have no clue if they both fit in the same thermostat housing, i've only got the early type lying around somewhere

Engine no. can be found here:

How old is your radiator, i recently put a new one in my combo and it definitely cools better then the old one !
How is the waterpump, if you're not sure a new one will only cost you €25 - €30 on ebay.de

I've done some trips with my nova at 140-160 km/h with no heat problems, have you tried more fuel ?

I bought a genuine water pump for mine for Ł9 off ebay a few months ago.

Vauxhall wanted an arm as a deposit and a leg on receipt.

yeah i guessed that it was the other way around, how have they got the intercooler and cold air induction both off the turbo intake? really love the idea of running a big intercooler and have nice pipework around the bay, sounds a bit stupid i no but it will aid in power department

But won't huge pipework and huge intercooler increase lag times due to more air having to be compressed??

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    Thanks DutchNovaDiesel,

You also have a 1,7TD in the combo?
Or does the '97 combo's have more HP? Top speed of mine is 150km/h.

I think the engine came out a '95 astra. By the way, i didn't find a blow off valve in the intake on mine. Maybee this indicate it is an "old" version of the engine.
My radiator is still stock, so i think is the original radiator. Waterpump, i don't now, the engine has about 130000km. So i think the water pump is still ok.

I didn't set more fuel. The engine and turbo settings are still stock, but i only did de removal of the white ring.
As soon as i have a good intercooler, i will set the fuel higher. Do you think more fuel gives cooler driving?
I understand that it will help with a gasoline engine, but will it also work with a diesel?

    Normal driving ( 120 km/h ) gives a temperature of 92,5°C.
Because of the trafic, i didn't drive 140 km/h for a long time, but when i do i think it goes to 95°C. Still not to the max, the red line begins after 100°C on the temperature gauge.

Before, with the 1,7 D i drive "pedal to the metal" all of the time, max 130km/h, if the wind was good, 140km/h, but the temperature stil keep around 90°C.

thanks for the help and info

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

The 92.5°C normal driving temperature is what it should be, does it go past 95°C (and does it rise fast once you're going 140-150km/h) ?
As for fuelling i don't know if it'll help, but it's worth a try (and no more than 5 min. of work).

I drive a totally standard Combo, but with the later X17D engine; same HP but it is better then the old one.
Had it at 160km/h + at which point the temperature starts to rise

    Normal temperature = 90°C-92.5°C

Nice Pic! You have your camera with you all the time ;-)

When i drive normal it goes to the 92,5°C. The first time with the turbo the temp did go higher, but maybe there was a little bit air in the radiator.
I wil test later to day whats happens with the temp when i drive 140-150 for a longer time.

    thanks!

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

    Hi,

It is hot in Belgium ( 29°C), and i did the test.
I drive 145 km/h at 4000 RPM and the temp goes to 97,5 maybee 98°C.
I don't now if it stays that way, i drive that speed for a few minutes, and than i have to slow down for other cars. Then the temp goes lower.

    Do i need to worry?
Can i drive for hours with a engine temperature of almost 100°C?

    thanks!

    Hi, DutchNovaDiesel,

What kind of oilcooler do you use? I saw at my engine that there is some kind of water cooling at the oilfilter. Is it possible to put here a oil cooler? Does the engine temp go lower with the extra oil cooler?
I still have problems with cooling when i drive 140-150km/h.

Re: Isuzu turbo diesel tuning guide

The original oilcooler is a heat-exchanger, so if the oil heats up; the coolant temp will also rise !

I haven't tested the new oil-cooler yet, and i'm not sure if i will be using it as
a replacement or just add it on top of the original oilcooler.

The oilcooler is a mocal item, with thermostat in the sandwichplate.
You can use any oil-cooler with M20x1.5 connection (sandwichplate to engine).

And yes, an oilcooler will help keep the temperature down !
