A friend of mine has just fitted a 2.0 8v with twin 40s to his Nova. The thing is incrdible. He had it set up and rr'd and it made 150bhp. 0-60 recorded (properly) at 7.0s. Also a friend of a friend had a 20XE with carbs making 185 bhp, so I am very interested in going for carbs myself, just have a few concerns.
1. Which carbs would best suit the 20XE, 40s, 45s, or 48s? And am I right in thinking the smaller they are, the smoother the car would run, but have less potential for power?
2. How will the torque and power be affected by carbs? Where in the rev range will power/torque benefit from carbs, and where will they be a disadvantage?
3. How does trumpet size affect things?
4. And lastly could I have an explaination of how the distributor should be changed. I read something about either changing ECU while retaining rev limiter, or changing distributor etc for a 1.8 cav version. Will fuel pump also need to be changed?
I realise I'm asking alot there, so thanks for any help guys
