when they're knackered?
Stripped my head down and all the followers have a 'hazey' areas around their circumferance where they have obviously been rubbing in their bores, and most have general markings on their tops - not (seamingly) from cam wear but look like black sort of tree rings??
Also half of the springs in the followers seem to be broken/stuck as they don't pump.
What am I looking for or measuring in deciding wheather to get some new ones?
Is it right I can strip them and replace the springs? were can I get the springs from?
Also isn't there 2 types of followers - one lighter than the other?
I'm building an engine similar to Gary's/Mike's with collosbro (spelling?) guides, highflow valves etc etc, so if there are 'better' hydraulic lifters to have I'll get them, but if mine are perfectly fine and the best you can get anyway then I'll keep them.
Anyone help?? (anyone got some pretty pics of followers so we can look at them?).
