I've read on various forums and websites that the 16v engine doesnt like bolt on air filters, ie K&N 57i kits etc. Someone suggested changing the panel filter in the air box for a K&N or like and drilling holes in the air box. Anyone got anymore info on this? Or just your current setup on your 16v.
The general concensus is that the airbox mod with a good panel filter is the best option. Best of both worlds so to speak. However I have a 57i on my cav with the pictured breather mod and all works well. Although the superchip may have something to do with it.
make the holes as big as you can without weakening the airbox but if you dont do the engine breather mods the car WILL kangaroo. also, you should duct cold air from the front of the car. there is also a throttle body u can do. take off the sfi cover and unbolt the throttle body and remove cable.pipes,etc. then remove and clean both butterflys then clean inside of throttle body with carb cleaner the lightly rub inside with 1200 wet,n,dry and water then polish with brasso. then on large butterfly remove the piece that looks like a segment of chocolate orange and then u can either fill the 2 holes with either nuts and bolts(using threadlock) or ideally, fill with epoxy resin. re assemble carefully and while u have the idle valve out clean it with carb cleaner. this makes an awffy difference to the performance and i have never seen any ill effects(apart from 18 points and 2 bans) good luck!
