Seam welding with a valver engine is probably not nessasary but it will tighten things up in the engine bay and feel stronger and better. Seam welding with a 2.0l Turbo engine I would have thought would be better. Think about it. A light car with all that torque and power pulling on it. Would have thougth that it would twist the chassis slightly when pulling away if it's not seam welded.
As said above seam welding will make it feel stronger and stiffer and should feel nicer when cornering e.t.c.
Another thing to take into account is it's all right having that power in a small car but you have to get the power down. No point having loadsa BHP when all you'll be doing at Santa Pod is wheel spinning at the start line. An LSD will sort that out along with some good tyres. So theres a coupld of other things to think about when going the Turbo route.
Richard Howes Nova is very nice. He is pushing out about 180-190bhp from his 2.0L 16v Nova. He's got twin carbs fitted to it with a few other engine mods like being ported e.t.c. He is to get new cams in there which should see him get 200bhp +.
In the end its up to you.
A 13sec quarter mile. Richard Bells Skyline is a beast and that does quarter miles in 12.5 seconds. What has he done to it and what is he going to do to it to make it faster. Must be scary.
Probalby a Turbo in my opinion if ya wanting to go for quarter miles like that. Wouldnt have thought it would be cheap though as you have to upgrade brakes e.t.c
For Novas ya can get a plating kit as oppose to just seam welding where ya think it might help. Ya get full insturctions and info witht eh plating kit and it has an exploded drawing e.t.c as to where all the plates go to strenghen the engine bay. Think it cost him £90. Not sure where from but I can find out for ya.
So as long as you are half descent with a welder then its just a matter of welding the plates in the right place in the engine bay.
Coundn't say for the Corsa. Richard mate is putting a Turbo in his Nova as we speak. He has the F28 box going in there because it has an LSD as mentioned before so no need to buy one. This way it gets the power down. But you will have to make some kind of bracket which will act as an engine mount for the gearbox. But as I say I am talking about this being done on a Nova. Maybe ring Courteny and see what they say.
Also your going to have to figure out what ya going for. Either Nova or Corsa.
Richards mate took the engine complete with F28 gearbox from a Calibra Turbo. So it's a Calibra Turbo engine that ya want.
Reason I would choose a Corsa is for the same reason as you. It's newer but I like both the cars the same for looks and all just the Corsa is newer so would go for that. Up to you I suppose though.
There is on occasion Calibra Turbo engines going for sale in the For Sale section on the board. Just keep an eye out for one.
Source the car and get the brakes e.t.c ready for when a good engine and box come along then all you have to do is get the engine in. Play about with it and then roll on Santa Pod. Not sure though if you will get 13 sec quarters. But its something to aim for.
Not to sure. I know the Run What Ya Brung is soon but not sure. Look at the bar at the top where it has Home l Forum l chat e.t.c and click on search.
When the search comes up Type in Santa Pod and it should bring up some past thread that people have posted. Failing that just look at some of the past pages up to about page 5 or 6 as a few people have posted recentely. Failing that again just post up about events and the MIG lot will tell ya the info.
Oh and there is also the calender at the top that will tell you dates e.t.c.
zero=ive just found out that its the 23rd june.if you want to be on the mig stand you need to ask(who,i don't know) or just turn up and go on the spectatours car park.if you need to need more info or wanna just check that its true post a new thread and ask the lads.
this is crazy stuff...i`ve seen this too many times, boy racers gving it this and that...they spend ££££'s on their cars, think they are top dog drivers and it all ends in tears, some one dies, get seriously injured and becomes another statistic!!
I wouldnt even bother to race one of those nutters, what the fecking point? u dont need respect from idiots? why risk your life trying to prove yourself to them?
If you must have a powerful car be prepared to accept responsibility, its easier said than done!
