After missing 2nd a few times at Castle Combe I decided that I ought to adjust the gear linkage properly. On the 8v there's a pinch bolt that grips the bar coming from the gear lever to the gearbox input bar.
I've spent this evening doing some trial and error adjustment. After starting with 1st where reverse was and fiddling around for an hour or two it's not too bad now. 5th is not quite right though, so I'm going to do some more adjustment tomorrow.
there is an easier way. theres a plug on the front of the gearbox where the selector enters it. You take out the plug, slide in a 4.5 mm drill which locks the bearbox in neutral, your then meant to take up the gear gaitor and align the stick with an arrow on the left hand side of the gear stick box assembly, you should end up with the stick in the neutral position but right over as far as it will go to the left.
