are astra and nova 1400 carb'd engines the same?-if not where are the differences? and what can I do as regards to tuning this engine mildly?-I tried a weber 32/34 but it would not work for me,I tried alsorts,so Im going to get it reconned and sell it or part ex it for a reconned item, I currently have a K&N and a stainless custom backbox(that sounds rather good actually!) the car has gsi suspension all round and anti roll bars, and has gte 16v brakes. I was thinking about a 4 branch manifold and full janspeed system, and just making sure the engine is in top condition, I would love some twin 40s but the price is alot isnt it? please help me,every little counts!- it needs to be quicker than a corsa sri 8v with an induction kit and full stainless(excluding cat!) I can already beat the corsa, but want to hammer it lol
yeah, we sound like a record stuck in a groove, but the easiest way to get more power is to get bigger capacity to start with. For sure you could get a 1.3 up to 120bhp on carbs and lots of other tuning. But then it would still have 80-90 lbs/ft of torque because its still a measily 1300cc capacity, and you would have to wring its neck at 7000rpm to get anywhere fast. 8v 1600 engine has like 90-100 lbs/ft as standard, and 2 litres from 130 to 150 lbs/ft as standard.
Its fundementals of tuning, get more air and fuel into the bores, simplest way to do this is bigger bores i.e 1600 or 2 litre engine. Or of course cram the most amount of the charge into the same small space which is turbo territory, but i dont think we need to go there.
If your not up for engine swaps then your just gonna have to live with it. Give the weber another chance and get it fitted properely they can yeild up to 5bhp and massive increase in throttle response as standard, you are mad to dismiss it.
I know that fitting a larger engine would benefit me more, but insurance does not really allow it at the moment, and I have points to go on my license too I think the weber did not work as there seemed to be part missing,I got the part I think is missing from an XR2 carb, its a round turret affair that faces towards the front and says weber on it and I think it links to the throttle linkage?-anyways its worth another go on the car, next up is a manifold and system, and maybe a cam,but I really want a gte lump soon,or just a gte. Thanks for the help, think I should out perform my mates corsa sri 8v with the weber on anyways,he hesitates on the clutch too much to get his power down properly, bin driving with him now
