    Corsa 2.5 v6 conversion advice

Right, im not expecting this to be an easy swap at all,

ive got 2 engines, one c20xe and the other a redtop v6 from an old calibra, in my town theres already about 6 valvers going around so ideally i want to make an impact and use the V6, ive seen it done before and im hoping some of you people here would have done it before, few things i need answering:

just how much work is needed? am i going to have to cut into the bodywork etc.?

performance wise, whats it like? im not expecting it to but will it give a c20let a good run for its money?

thats about it really, if theres any other advice please feel free to share,

also sorry if ive missed a really obvious guide to do this somewhere on here already lmao

    Hi mate,
The reason why there are not many about as they are a total pig to do, as they cost alot on parts to make them fit, and people can have a C20let for about the same price if not cheaper.

Cutting the bodys is really not need, just the bulkhead as there no room for the inlet system or throttle system. Also so you can get the inlet on and off.

Custom engine mount is needed, on the drivers side which need to go threw a Belt so is alittle pain in the arse.

when fitting the engine you need to Strip it total down to a bare block mount it and then add all the bits, as there is no room at all in the bay to do anything.

Now here the main Problem and the money shot
the manifolds, the front one hits the crossmember and the rear one (which is the bitch) hits the steering rack, as there is no room at all between the engine and the rack, so both manifold need custom making, which is a Nightmare. as its a matter of make a bit test it make abit more test that, reason being theres only about 3" between the block and rack and in that room you need to make a down pipe with a curve and design it to you can bolt it on.
When i was building mine i spoke to a lad who was one of the first to fit a V6 and he has to Cut his manifold off whenever he wants to take it off and reweld it back on.
mine takes 4hours to take off as i only have about 5mm of spanner movment.
To get a company to make theres your looking about 400 per manifold (only going off what a mate Brett had to pay for his Nova V6)

You will also need a F20 Gearbox and Flywheel plus a uprated clutch as they dont last long, my brand new standard vauxhall one lasted 2 months (300miles)

Cooling the engine is another people, i had head gaskets go in a week (plus another V6 corsa i know went after 3 weeks and e went back to XE) get the biggest Rad you can fit Plus spend money on good fans, i have 2 Kenlow fans which cost 60 each and are well worth every penny.

shafts again upto you, if your using the Split shaft and middle mount you going to need to make a spacer as theres a gap, otherwise the shafts will flop about.

as for Power i wouldent like to say with a C20LET as i havent been aside one, the V6 engine swop in a corsa has not got to be down to power its got to be down to wanting the engine in there, and enjoying the sound it makes (which it awsome), if it was down to power you could get a LET in there which in the long run you could get alot more power out off, where 210bhp is about the limits off a V6 without spending alot of money (unless you got NOS)

I have done loads of XE and LET's into corsas for myself and other people and i would do them again if asked, BUT i would never do another V6 again..........

any more question feel free to PM

i wouldnt say a v6 would keep nowhere near an let, i know it was in a vectra but my mate wasted his step dad's veccy v6, and that was in a nova xe which was on its last legs, so i reckon corsa let vs corsa v6 would be no match at all, dont quote me on that cos i've never seen iit happen!! lol

You will be better off using the cav/cally v6 loom and ecu then you can use the cav/cally inlet manifold instead of the vectra plenums.Dont think you have to worry about the chip/transponder then either. Ash

hi there im in the middle of my corsa 2.5 v6 project, and the only thing im finding a problem with is getting an engine mount for the drivers side, i have a plate which has bolted to the corsa body, and another plate which is to bolt to the engin itself, this doesnt appear to fit and i have no rubber mount. does anyone have any idea what to get??
would ne a great help, cheers dan

Re: Corsa 2.5 v6 conversion advice

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but after most said I should go for a v6 instead of keeping my xe in the corsa I been thinking of this.

I can get a front mounting and there are a few places that can make the exhaust manifolds so thats not a problem...

My problem is that over here in South Africa we only had the omega 2.6l v6 and there was only a very few of them. Our engine suppliers have the 2.5 and 3.0 so getting a decent one is not a problem but I would like to know what ecu to use. I currently have a the early type c20xe wiring and ecu but that wont work. could I use the omega 2.6 ecu and harness or am I better off going with a stand alone management system? also sould I go 3.0 or 2.5? thanks.

3.0 and standalone if you can afford it.......if your getting an engine from a supplier then there's always the 3.2 as an option!!....

    a set of tubular manifolds
    uprated cams
    head work (port and polish'd)

will be fast as fook! lol

thanx, i read that the 3.2 has weaker internals. I plan on running nos at a later stage so thought the 3.0l will be better. Also they charge alot more for the 3.2.

i'm sure the 3.2 has a steel bottom end so that should be ok but yeah they do cost a fair bit more! lol......what plans do you have tuning wise?

Re: Corsa 2.5 v6 conversion advice

my plan is a x30xe, in standard trim with stand alone management(cheaper over here than having the standard bits shipped over), custom exhaust manifolds with a 63mm exhaust then at a later stage i want to put a nice shot of nos. The problem is that the parts for these motors are extremely scarce over here the 2.5, 3.0 and 3.2 are only avaliable from an engine importer.

Afaik there is only 1 v6 corsa thats still being built in the country and then a 2.5, a 3.0 and a 3.2 in 3 mk3 astras... So these are not common at all.

Hi there I have a Corsa c and want to put v6 in to it. Do you know of mount kit available or is it a matter of fabrication myself? Mine is currently a 1.7 td so have to find a fuel tank and lines to run it,any recommendations would be helpful

The 3.2 did come with a steel crank but be sure to buy a low mile engine with history, if you intend on a rebuild have the crank checked and buy GM bearings!
IMO the cranks and bearing aren't a good match from the factory.....as in bearing durability wise.

as for the 2.6 v6 and 3.2 v6 they are lower compression than the 2.5 and 3.0, imo you are best of with the latter two, you can build a good engine from swapping parts around.

Re: Corsa 2.5 v6 conversion advice

i'd use the 2.5 v6 vectra lump (if you can get your hands on 1), have some work done to the head, swap the cams for a set of 3L omega cams...me and my stepdad did this with an astra about 2 years ago and it was 1 of the quickest cars around for a while
