The 270 BHP Limitation comes from Engine Dyno development of the 2.0 LET back in 1993 we found that the engine ran out of Injector Duration (i.e. could not supply Enough Fuel before the next Firing cycle) at 267BHP but could supply enough fuel for a midrange torque figure of 326 Lbs ft of torque.Bosch rate the 311cc injector at 270 BHP so our experience tied up. However that was at the standard fuel pressure of 3 Bar. The duty cycle of 85% is not just a" Courtenay /MBE myth" or a limitation of MBE's ECU, it is an industry standard as any one who maps engines will tell you.The reason for this is that Vehicles that are equipped with a map sensor and air temp sensor and can adjust for changes in pressure and air temp. Thus a car running at a higher Mapped injection rate(I.e. 90-95%) could and do run out of injector duration and duty cycle due a change air temp and pressure. So with 15% in hand it offers a safety margin so people are not getting random misfires on cold damp nights etc. This is why people change injectors for bigger ones, alternatively you can get more fuel by raising the fuel pressure. Both approach's will keep your injector duration down to a safe level. Here's a quick calculation to show you what happens when a change in fuel pressure is made to a LET injector. You divide the New pressure by the Old pressure so 4.bar divided by 3.0 bar =1.5 then you find the square root of this number which = 1.2247, you multiply old fuel flow by the square root to find the new fuel flow, so 1.2247x 311cc = a new flow rate of 380.89 cc/min .
Using the FPR that comes with the Phase III kit (4.5bar) will take the fuel flow rate to 380cc/min which is almost the same as sticking Bosch 803's (these are 382cc/min) and these are rated to 330BHP by most ppl.
What it could be saying is simply this - The Phase kit may only use the standard injectors but, by what has been said above, the fuel system "upgrades" that it does mean that it should flow enough fuel for 330BHP. The Phase III only goes to 315BHP.
A few ppl are still of the opinion that using the standard injectors for 315BHP is not possible or will result in problems...... Not according to the above tho
