Whilst racing a BMW 330 earlier this evening i started overtaking him. as I got past him the car suddenly lacked power. It still has some but not what it should say 75%. It feels like its misfiring. Theres no dodgy noises as such from the engine. Is it possible the dizzy cap has cracked or a plug or lead has gone? All parts are reasonably new but i was giving it some stick. It may be worth noting that I think head gasket went last week.
I would certainly look into the head gasket. What makes you think that it has gone?
I had a problem with what felt like a misfire. I took the plugs out and gapped them down ever so slightly and that solved the problem. I read on the NGK website somewhere that with per extra 50bhp you should look to gap down the plugs slightly. I cant remember exactly how much though.
I also changed my rotor arm and leads for magnecor 8.5mm ones and it runs very sweet. VX wanted about £65 for a new dizzy cap, so I laughed and looked on the net. I found one for about £16, haha. Still haven't bought it yet though.
I fink its gone cos the power is down a bit. more like 200BHP instead of the 260 i should have. It now feels like its got 175 BHP.
There is oil in the water aswell would this be the head gasket or is it something more serious.
I have changed plugs and leads. I've started the car with each lead disconnected in turn and its the one nearest the dizzy thats the problem. I've changed the Plug and the lead on that one and its slightly better but not right. I think it must be a crack dizzy cap or knackered rotor arm. I look tonight.
When i say oil in the water (and vice versa) i'm talking a lot of black oil in the water. It seems to have appear to quick for it to be a porous head. I'm losing water aswell (not really fast but noticably).
I think its time to get it in to a Garage and get it all sorted.
