My 20XE Nova was the first 2.0 nova i had been in, not knowing what to expect i was very pleased with the power, but I always wanted to race another 2.0 nova or corsa to make sure my car was running like it should be. I met a local lad at a race track with a 2.0 nova, we had a race (straight line)& i lost BIG TIME
1st gear I got the better take off & got about 3ft in front, 2nd gear I completely passed his car, 3rd gear he caught up & passed me about 2 cars, 4th gear he gained another 3 car lengths on me, I kept it nailed but couldn't catch him
I was expecting him to beat me, but maybe by a car length if that because his car is lighter, but now I'm thinking I made have made a mistake in my choice of modifications. I'll list the differences between the cars.
My Nova:
C20XE Dizzy type / GSi Bodyshell / 2.25 Straight Through Exhaust / 16" Speedline Alessio's
His Nova:
C20XE Dispack type / 1.3 Bodyshell / F20 Gearbox / 2" Magnex system / 15" Astra GSi rims
The obvious thing is the weight difference, but surely that would of affected the whole race. I'm thinking maybe i'm loosing torque by not having any silencers?
I think your on the right lines with the gearbox idea..........
dont think the diesel parts or a good idea but the only true way is to get both cars on the rollers and get a proper readout..
ive got a 16v with a f16 and you find yourself fighting to change gears quick enough cos the gears are shorter, and when im running the nos its even shorter
Are the XE's running standard besides exhaust and filter?
2.25" exhaust prob to big for standard (no back pressure) and losing you torque?
Whats the advantages with your modded F20? I take it the ratios are the same as standard saying you are using the F20 gearset...
I thought on an XE 2" was the right size, 2.25" was used on TB's and 2.5" was extreme for biiiiiig power users?
I was running a 2" with 183bhp on my XE and was told it was need changing to 2.25" for running around the 200 mark
Well it sounds like you`re pretty 'matey' with this guy so if a trip to the rollers for you both is outta the question maybe try swapping exhausts and see ow you go from there, that way you`ll know one way or the other but if he still trounces you, a trip to the rollers is the only way!
It won't be the exhaust, id be very surprised if it was. In fact just disconnect yours from the manifold if you think its the problem. It'll be loud though lmao
Also you mention you have 16"`s and he has 15"`s but what kinda tyres you both got??
he could have a bigger profile than you making the rolling radius/circumference of the wheels roughly the same or it coild g the other way....
he may have the smaller wheels and a smaller profile tyres making his wheels spin up quicker
Really speaking tho, there shouldn`t be that much in it just due to the wheels, it really is more likely to be ya box and the lack of silencers (back pressure)
whats the ratio of the diesel crown wheel/pinion ?
i didnt thnk there was a specific diesel gearbox, most were fitted with F18 wide ratio, which have big final drives like 3.94 or similar. that wouldve given you a distinct advantage from a standing start to 100 ish, and a bit detrimental after that.
