First Defeat in Nova XE (confused)

My 20XE Nova was the first 2.0 nova i had been in, not knowing what to expect i was very pleased with the power, but I always wanted to race another 2.0 nova or corsa to make sure my car was running like it should be. I met a local lad at a race track with a 2.0 nova, we had a race (straight line)& i lost BIG TIME :(

1st gear I got the better take off & got about 3ft in front, 2nd gear I completely passed his car, 3rd gear he caught up & passed me about 2 cars, 4th gear he gained another 3 car lengths on me, I kept it nailed but couldn't catch him :(

I was expecting him to beat me, but maybe by a car length if that because his car is lighter, but now I'm thinking I made have made a mistake in my choice of modifications. I'll list the differences between the cars.

My Nova:
C20XE Dizzy type / GSi Bodyshell / 2.25 Straight Through Exhaust / 16" Speedline Alessio's

His Nova:
C20XE Dispack type / 1.3 Bodyshell / F20 Gearbox / 2" Magnex system / 15" Astra GSi rims

The obvious thing is the weight difference, but surely that would of affected the whole race. I'm thinking maybe i'm loosing torque by not having any silencers?

Your comments please, sorry for the long post.

regs.

I thought on an XE 2" was the right size, 2.25" was used on TB's and 2.5" was extreme for biiiiiig power users?
I was running a 2" with 183bhp on my XE and was told it was need changing to 2.25" for running around the 200 mark :)
2.5" fot tb's recommended by SBD !! The BTB/SBD manifold is designed to fit a 2.5" exhaust !! ;)

I am very confused. am looking at this thread as I run an F20 box in my rear engined XE powered autograss special. I race in 2nd gear but it is too low (not enough speed) and 3rd is too high.

I need a ratio in between so I did a search on diesel box ratios.

All the talk of different CWPs in F20's is surely bull5hit!!! The pinion is machined as part of the mainshaft so how do you change it????? Surely only the F13 has an exchangeable pinion. Certainly my manual and the last 2 F20's I rebuilt had the pinion machined as part of the mainshaft, not splined on like the little boxes.

Besides all this, anybody know the actual diesel "wide" gearset ratios, and what cars they were fitted to so I can get hold of one! I don't care about the other gears, I just need a higher (longer) 2nd gear!

Engine in his car is a bog standard DIS pack engine that i used to have in my mid engine nova.

Its had more bottles of nitrous go through it than ive had hot dinners, and i think you will find its in limphome mode still cause it needs a new airflow meter!

Only done about 40K though from new

The new owner's a good lad, there will be a rematch soon.

It wasn't in limp mode when he beat me. I guess with all that nos the engine must be very "loose & opened up"

Nitrous doesnt effect the engine in the slightest mate if done properly.

Its still in limphome mode unless he has bought a new sensor.

It was also in limphome mode when i ran that 13.3 as it happens lmao

Come on seriously I thought limp home mode only allowed revs to go to 4k ish, also won't the ecu light be on ?

Aamir, there isnt a management light connected on that nova to be on in the first place.

On the DIS pack motor limphome mode is actually fully driveable as it has a variable throttle position switch, only real difference is it runs a little richer.
