I got the April edition of Total Vauxhall and flicked to the 'v-files'

It states 3 engines in the astra gsi mk3. 2 different 2.0, the x20xev and c20xe. what are the differences apart from power?

which is the better engine?

how do you tell the difference?

The C20XE is the original 2 litre that vauxhall used in the Astra GSI, Cavalier & Calibra. It's definitely the one to have as it's 150bhp as standard. Easily identified by the L-shape spark plug cover on the rocker box, and it will say SFI on the throttle body cover.

The X20XEV is the later ecotec engine that vauxhall designed in order to reduce emissions and economy. The problem is they only produce 136bhp as standard, and getting more power from them costs more than that of tuning the C20XE. Found in later model Astra GSI's, you can tell it's an ecotec by the spark plug cover because it is straight and has ECOTEC written on it.
