Cleaning out your idle control valve (20xe)

Now I got the bugger off, I have been told to clean it up, how?? Obviously cleaning the electrical connections.

But what about the rest, will spraying a load of carb cleaner down one of the pipes work??

You can actually get these ultrasonically cleaned, but if you don't want to go to that expense, get some carb cleaner in there!

Yeh, but Luca charge 20/injector for ultra sonic cleaning.

If its 20 for an ultrasonic clean to my idle valve I could rather have that. Nice and clean and some nice smooth idling me thinks.

you can hook up the two terminals to a car battery and the valve will open up fully, you can then flush the valve with carb cleaner.

the only downside is that carb cleaner is hideously flammable, and connecting the valve to a battery makes a spark, oooops, wooooooooooooffff, aaaagghh me eyebrows.

    LOL

You're meant to use it on the idle valve, not drink it!!!

better way to do it. but you need some tools.

take off the valve but leave conected to the wires. set up a code reader onto the diagnostic terminal and set a pulsating test (cant remember the exact name for it at the mo). this will open and close the valve every 1 second. spray cleaner in there and it will be spotless...

    alternativly get a new one...

You have to get under the car, unscrew two jubilee clips and take off the power plug. Then it just drops out.

I connected a 12V battery to mind and kept turning it on and off while spraying carb cleaner into it.

Replace it?? You certainly know how to waste cash!!

HAHAHA, you should try it on the turbo..... Cant get to it from underneath due to t/x box and its a pain in the fecking arse to get at from the side.

    Do-able, just VERY fiddly.

once you got em off a few times it gets easy, sight is no longer neccersary.

when i said a new one, i meant a second hand new one, i got 2 spare sitting here. allways 1 if the current one goes wrong, which it has, twice...

The reason I removed and cleaned it was to see if it made a difference to a hessitation problem I have at the moment.
