I've now got 1 dead Astra 16V on my drive the only part of which I want is the engine. I have the task this weekend of pulling it out, never having worked on an Astra, is there anything I need to be weary of? I assume the engine and box will come out up through the bonnet apature? rather than removing sub frames. Does the front of the car (scuttle etc.) unbolt? or is it welded?
The other problem is when I collected the car I put it on the trailer and noticed the bonnet was released, so I clonked it fully closed, symaltaneously the previous owner dived towards me in slow motion shouting NNNNOOOOOOOOOO in a deep slow motion kinda way. I was wandering what was going on, well the last time he popped the bonnet, the cable broke for the release, so he had very wisley left the bonnet poped for my benfit. Oopps!
Question is how do I get the bonnet open? the cable is broken at the catch end? Anyone know any tricks.....please! I really dont want it to take longer to get the bonnet up, than the engine out.
