what it the correct sequence of doing up these bolts ant the correct torque settings as the last time i done this it leaked on the corner by the dizzy(and sill is), and now its dripping down the block and a little on the heat shield which is making my car stink a little bit of oil
there isnt really one.
get a proper GM gasket or it will leak
i did them in the same order as the headbolts, just to look good
the hardest part is getting the gasket to stay on the lip as they warp in the packaging
I did this a couple of weeks ago. New cover and gasket.
I just put them in every other bolt and tightened them a little, making sure every bolt was in line before i tightened fully. Then I used alan key snapping force to tighten them. Been ok so far.
As an aside.. when was the last time you checked the O-ring for the dizzy housing? Mine leaked a lot. cured 75% of me oil leak. Ya know what that means, new rocker cover and gasket, head gasket and bits might have been for nothing! Doh!
I used some silicone stuff on the right hand side of the cover at the rear where you get the semi circle shaped part of the gasket. Nowhere else.
The O-ring for the dizzy is simply a case of undoing a couple of bolts, you can leave the leads on the cap. The it's just a matter of pulling the old O-ring out. You dont need to worry about putting the cap back on in the same place since on XE's it will only go on one way.
Mine didn't fall out, it was perished and stuck inside the cap. Perhaps if yours is falling out that's why it's leaking. Put a small mirror underneath the cap and see if there is any oil evident that isn't from the cover itself.
