As i think this is whats buggered on my Cav i wondered if some one might be able to give me instructions on how to replace it/them. I want to sort it as soon as possible cos being without a car is a nightmare. What are the rough costs for the parts? etc etc....
i bought new idler for about 40 quid from SBD. I;m lucky enough to have an early engine which had steel rollers, if you have the later engine with plastic rollers SBD can do you a steel upgrade. As for changing it its only 1 6mm allen bolt, the real bitch is tensioning the belt again. Its entirely possible to not upset the timing if you just dont touch it. Just line up the timing marks before you start play.
I suspect, as you have mentioned Dave, that the tensioner has been on its way out for a while which is why the car had a slight deisel sound. I will just replace the broken bits with exact parts for now and get the timing setup spot on. How hard is it to setup the timing on the 20LET. Its a 1993 K plate first registered on the 1 June 1993. Will it be metal or plastic?
Doh!!! No airbag but i've just checked the V% Doc and it was first reg'd on the 6th of Jan (06/01/1993 not 01/06/1993) so it just be the metal one then. Should it have broken????? If so would it just suddenly break or would it take a little time?
